Legend vs Hyperliquid: what is actually different?
These are two layers of the same stack rather than two rival exchanges. This page sets out what each layer provides, what each costs, and how to decide.
Short answer
Hyperliquid provides the underlying exchange: liquidity, order matching, and on-chain settlement. Legend is a trading interface built on top of it that adds Arena matches, rankings, clans, a social feed, spectating, and copy trading, and applies its own platform fee of 0.05% on perpetuals and 0.25% on spot in addition to Hyperliquid fees.

What does Hyperliquid actually do?
It is the exchange. Orders are matched there, positions live there, and settlement happens on-chain there. Any interface built on top of it — including Legend — depends on that infrastructure for execution quality and for the network fees you pay.
What does Legend add on top?
A different experience of the same markets. Trading becomes visible and competitive: public profiles, a feed, clans, spectating, head-to-head Arena matches with ELO ratings, and copy trading that mirrors another trader's positions. Legend charges its own platform fee for that layer.
How should you compare them?
- Total fee cost per round trip at your realistic trading volume.
- Interface quality and whether the order types you need are present.
- Whether you would genuinely use the social and competitive features.
- Risk information: how clearly liquidation levels are presented.
- Regional availability and the terms that apply to you.
When the extra fee is defensible
If you actively use the social layer, follow traders through copy trading, or value the competitive formats, you are buying something concrete. If you trade high volume on thin margins and ignore all of it, you are paying for features you do not use.
What we do not claim
We do not claim Legend is universally better than trading directly on the underlying exchange, and we do not claim the reverse. It is a preference and cost question, and the honest answer depends on your volume and what you actually use.
Comparison FAQ
Is Legend a competitor to Hyperliquid?
No. Legend is an interface built on Hyperliquid. Trading through Legend means trading on Hyperliquid with Legend's features and fee wrapped around it.
Which one is cheaper?
Trading through Legend adds Legend's documented platform fee on top of the network fees you would pay on the underlying exchange, so the fee total is higher. Whether the added features justify it depends on how you trade.
Which one is better?
Neither is universally better. They occupy different layers. The useful question is whether Legend's social, competitive, and copy-trading features are worth its platform fee for your style and volume.
